I am energized by the opportunity to work with, train, and learn from the next generation of leaders and professionals to advocate for social justice.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
As an instructor, I use strategies to craft an inclusive learning environment in which students feel comfortable contributing, are able to demonstrate their strengths, and enhance the skills they need to be effective public health professionals:
I establish and maintain an inclusive learning environment by (1) using instructional practices grounded in equity, (2) establishing the classroom as a space where diverse experiences and voices are honored, and (3) eliciting student feedback to improve upon my instruction.
- visionary problem-solving (application of skills and knowledge to creating innovative solutions to persistent social issues)
- clear and multidimensional communication (the ability to communicate clearly with various audiences across different modalities)
- and compassionate critical-thinking (the practice of deeply analyzing issues from an equity-based lens to ensure that people’s dignity and humanity are centered).
